THE KISS OF DECEPTION: Two Weeks in the Top Ten

On May 23rd The Kiss of Deception by Mary Pearson hit the number 8 spot in the Kids and Teen section of the Books A Million online store. The following week it rose another spot to #7.

The Kiss of Deception is the first book in Mary's Remnant Chronicles series. The next installment, The Heart of Betrayal, was released on July 7th. Mary joins us today to talk about her e-publishing success.

First let's find out what The Kiss of Deception is about.

In a society steeped in tradition, Princess Lia's life follows a preordained course. As First Daughter, she is expected to have the revered gift of sight--but she doesn't--and she knows her parents are perpetrating a sham when they arrange her marriage to secure an alliance with a neighboring kingdom to a prince she has never met.

On the morning of her wedding, Lia flees to a distant village. She settles into a new life, hopeful when two mysterious and handsome strangers arrive--and unaware that one is the jilted prince and the other an assassin sent to kill her. Deception abounds, and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets--even as she finds herself falling in love.

What top factors do you believe put your e-book where it is now?

One of the top factors is word-of-mouth. Bloggers, tweeters, book clubs, booktubers, and book lovers of all kinds have shouted out about this book. I am forever grateful.

What does your writing schedule look like? What are you working on now?

I usually write every day--unless I am on tour. Right now I am working on book 3 of my series, the final book of The Remnant Chronicles.

Time to pull out your Magic 8 Ball: How do you see the world of e-publishing developing for children and young adults over the next 5 years?

I am seeing that a lot of readers want both formats. I often buy ebooks because it is so easy--especially when I travel--but then very often I will turn around and buy the hardcover too, because I love thumbing through a book for rereads. I think the two formats compliment each other.

Do you believe the e-format helps or hurts you as an author? How?

Helps. The more ways a reader can enjoy a book the better!
